Hola. Compare the contribs of GUnitJt7 and 67.168.23.153, and you'll see the pattern. Just changes the numbers slightly; hoping no one will notice. I've compared the numbers at the RIAA and Billboard sites with his edits, and they don't match up. He's been hitting other articles too. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thanks! --weirdoactort|c--02:36, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering (I don't want to take up too much of your time, but) could you please send me the contents of User:Tabaris, as it used to contain a wikithreat (per-se), and I need it to persue a block for threats, as I have recieved many more from him (or his socks).
We had a discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Molecular_and_Cellular_Biology about using open source annotations of protein families from Pfam/Interpro database:
[1]
I have created a few articles by copying and editing such summaries (that saves a lot of time!). This may have a big impact because there are many hundreds (or even thousands) of decent quality open source summaries on biological subjects currently not included in Wikipedia.
One of them (article about C2 domain) has been detected as copyvio, although everything is perfectly legal (we even have a letter from Alex Bateman who is Pfam author - he encouraged us to use their summaries). So, some similar false positive copyvio messages may appear in the future. The "original" text may have the following addresses:
because InterPro summaries are included not only to InterPro itself but also to databases Pfam and SMART. However, the InterPro summaries can be used by many people or resources (since they are freely availabe), so there is a possible overlap with texts in many different places.

I am not an expert here. I thought everything was fine since we asked for permission from one of the authors of the database and received it. It is common practice that people copy those summaries. If you think there are any potential problems, I will not copy anything from there in the future. So far, I did this for maybe 6 or 7 articles and made some modifications. Do you think I should edit these aricles further (basically they are stubs), so there will be no copyright questions anymore? Thanks. Biophys02:11, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It seems they indeed operate under GPL license, which is not appropriate for Wikipedia, although their group leader allowed us to use their summaries. So, I am not going to copy anything from Pfam in the future. Sorry, I thought that was a good idea. Biophys04:24, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya Where, I just deleted a few fairly obvious copyright violations on Wikiversity which Wherebot didn't catch. Is it still running on Wikiversity? Seems to be rather dormant lately. Michael Billington (talk • contribs) 00:40, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I award this barnstar to Where for Wherebot for helping ensure Wikipedia finds copyright violations before they become a problem and undertaking the tedious work that many of us do not wish to do. Tawker22:46, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think Wikipedia would have some major problems w/ Wherebot offline. Do you have the capacity to have Wherebot do diff checks similar to AntiVandalBot's operation. It might be a useful function but I don't think it would fit in running it w/ AntiVandalBot (it's already overloaded as is) :) -- Tawker22:46, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A month is not too long at all! Also, this bot doesn't need to run on the toolserver -- I have no problem running it on my own computer (or at least I have no problem setting up a Linux box to run it, though the former is preferred). ★MESSEDROCKER★02:34, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just a couple of things I want to make sure I've pointed out: in addition to the sentence being searched, add "-wikipedia" (without the quotes) at the end of the query. Additionally, the sentence being searched should not be wrapped in quotes, and if there's at least 70% match, list as a potential copyright threat. Thank you!! ★MESSEDROCKER★11:48, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please review the history of this page, my edit was designed to removed unsourced POV comments that a number of IP addresses have been attempting for weeks to add to this article and Hazel Blears in clear violation of WP:NPOV, WP:V and WP:POINT. I hope you will remove the vandal warning template from my talkpage- they are not really appropriate for use on established users in any event. Yours, WJBscribe(WJBtalk)23:52, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In future may I suggest checking your talk page for any responses to your reversions using VP before logging out of Wikipedia. I look forward to hearing from you when you next log in. WJBscribe(WJBtalk)00:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Where, Thanks for the apology. No harm done. WJBscribe(WJBtalk) has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by smiling at someone else, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Go on, smile! Cheers, and happy editing! Smile at others by adding {{subst:Smile}} to their talk page with a friendly message.
While the edits made may require diwscussion on the talk page I cannto see how VP flagged them as vandalism. Now another editor is busy reverting reversions of your VP edit. Please will you go to the article talk page and handle the matter? Fiddle Faddle01:28, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I like the idea of sigContract, and it sounds good in theory. However, I have added the script to the very end of my monobook.js and it does not contract sigs. I added the comments to my signature as described on the script's page, but no luck. Do I have to remove the comment below the script to make it work? ---Voyagerfan576101:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I see that Wherebot hasn't reported any copyright violation since 07:39, 14 January 2007. Is it sick? :) I hope it'll get better soon, it's a great tool! -- lucasbfrtalk16:30, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anytime :) By the way Ijust spotted this line on the suspected violations:
Cut Corners -- [[2]failedtodecodedata [2]failedtodecodedata]. Reported at 16:05, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, I noticed that you created Template:Nothing back in July. Does Wherebot still use it? It is transcluded on 14 pages; if you wish, I could remove the transclusions (really minor target for vandalism, etc.)
I mention this because I would like to use it (substing {{<includeonly>subst:<includeonly>{{{1|}}}}} does not work, but doing the same for {{<includeonly>subst:<includeonly>{{{1|Nothing}}}}} does) on a template that I made (actually, a meta-template; WP:AUM was rejected by the community). I hope you don't mind if I do that (apparently not the tempalte's original purpose), and maybe adjust the text between the <noinclude> tags to reflect its multiple (?) uses. GracenotesT § 03:08, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE: It seems to work if I just add importScript('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Easy db'); to my monobook rather than paste the script. ...discospinstertalk16:31, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there... I hope I'm not annoying you, but I'm just wondering how much progress you've made (if any) on the proposed bot I've mentioned above, and if any circumstances have changed since the almost-a-month-ago when I originally asked you. Thank you! —Signed, your friendly neighborhood MessedRocker.05:55, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm against only checking the beginning of paragraphs, because I certainly believe copyright-infringing passages can be inserted in the middle of the paragraph as well, and so all will have been in vain. Let's not make time a factor; since WhereBot is inspecting all the new articles, WMBot can inspect all the old articles; ergo there's only a need to run it once and time is not really a factor. Do you see what I mean? —Signed, your friendly neighborhood MessedRocker.18:51, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Is the mighty Wherebot feeling ok? It hasn't reported an SCV in almost a day and the WGnomes are getting restless!
And, if down, will it pick up with contribs from the time it went down or skip to whatever's posted after it comes back online (i.e., should we be spending time looking manually for copyvios)?
I think this is bad. Saving the users with big sigs from suffering through edit pages full of them, while everyone else has to deal with them? Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 02:57, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if you've noticed, but all that extra junk you add makes annoying long signatures even longer for the rest of us. Very annoying – Qxz18:17, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Special note to spamlist users: Apologies for the formatting issues in previous issues. This only recently became a problem due to a change in HTML Tidy; however, I am to blame on this issue. Sorry, and all messages from this one forward should be fine (I hope!) -Ral315
Can you please update the source of Wherebot? I hope I can get it to work in the Arabic wikipedia. thanks in advance.--Alnokta13:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the late reply (I was out), thanks for updating the source! I'm going to try it..I will tell you whether I run it successfully or else.--Alnokta19:01, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I tried many times to get the bot working but to no avail!. I got the bot finds the copy violations pages and even report them at a page I made for testing, but the characters were messed up and don't show correctly..append.py used to give me error saying "ascii codec cannot decode..." until I added .encode('utf-8') to text = text + "\n" + sys.argv[1] so it became text = text + "\n" + sys.argv[1].encode('utf-8') .. then it reported and wrote to the wiki but with unreadable characters!!..
Apparently, the bot works with English script only..making it unusable to every other language..I don't really know the problem, but I think the encodings gets messed up when the perl script sends it to the python script...may be the encoding the perl script sends isn't utf-8..If you can fix this. I would really appreciate it(and many other wikis)...another thing, the url it usually finds contains Arabic characters and I think it causes a problem because the brackets which are reported are empty "[]"..if can you can try with other wiki(not in English)...
Thanks for putting time into it. may be the problem can be solved if you remove the python part? I think there is a perl framework to work with the wiki..or even change the way it reports, like mmaking the perl script write to a file and append.py to check that file for changes every while, if it is changed; it writes to the wiki..--Alnokta03:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! ;)
I finally was able to get it to work..but there is a problem, which is it don't write the source url from which the page was copied :( you can take a look here..also another thing, when it is working, it says something like " import yahoo.search
ImportError: No module named yahoo.search" is that all right?...thanks..--Alnokta15:44, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That went fine, I got no root but I managed to install it in a different place.. now it gives no errors at all..but it still reports the pages but without the url! I don't know how it even knew it is copyvio and at the same time cannot write the url!..at least the encoding problem is gone ;).. so what could be the reason for not reporting the url as well?--Alnokta06:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the bother again, but it is still don't write the url in the report page! .. you say "#CONFIG: CHANGE $misc/search2.py to the path to search.py from the Yahoo search API" but there is no such thing called search2.py or search.py in Yahoo search API..so I tried websearch.py from 'Examples' directory and 'web.py' from search directory...It gives no errors..can you take a look why it isn't writing the url? here is a screenshot...--The Joke13:49, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, Where. Do you think you could send me the code to the WMBot you developed for me? I'd like to tinker with it. —Signed, your friendly neighborhood MessedRocker.00:47, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tho I hardly consider myself one of "the best contributors", my dear Where,
I am flattered by your kindness, and thank you so much for your warm welcome :)
I hope to see you around again a lot, like in the old days...
It's great to talk to you again :)
And by the way, your RfA thanks message is still the best WP has ever seen! ;)
I would like to ask for your assistance. About 14 months ago, I self nominated for an RfA, which I ultimately withdrew (see here). During that RfA, you lodged an oppose vote, and I have taken a lot of the comments from that failed RfA on board since then. I am now up to an average of near on 875 to 900 edits per year, having only recently got back to the net from health issues (Throat cancer), and I am once again considering attempting a request for adminship. I am writing to all those editors who opposed my original self-nomination to ask them to see if they would be kind enough to review my recent work, and to see whether they consider that I have taken those points from my old RfA on board enough to warrant another attempt.
I am enjoying getting back into the swing of working on Wikipedia again, and looking forward to enjoying many more years of work. I am now using Twinkle and VandalFighter for my reversion work on RCP and CVU, and looking to the future.

I was wondering if it's possible to get an updated copy of the source code. The Hebrew Wikipedia is interested in using it. Also, how much work do you think would need to be done to adapt it to he? Thanks, Yonatantalk03:18, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry to trouble you, but Wherebot appears to be acting up. It's currently reporting copyvios with no source listed. Upon examination, most (if not all) of them do not appear to be copyvios. If it's stopped doing it by the time you see this, you can look at this version of the page for an example of the problem. Thanks! --Butseriouslyfolks04:50, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, Wherebot's doing that thing again with the frequent false positives and no source. I think it fixed itself last time, but wanted to let you know it was happening again. Cheers! --But|seriously|folks05:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I need to inform you that I've protected Wikipedia:WikiProject_User_scripts/Scripts/test-enhanced because it allows users to add code to the javascript of other users. If you are an admin, you are still able to edit it, but if you are not an admin, please copy and paste it into your userspace to continue modifying it. Hey, since you've been away for so long from Wikipedia, I've worked on and improved on your Localized Comments script. It's found at User:Gary King/localize comments.js. Let me know if you want to combine our efforts so two versions of the same script do not need to be maintained. Cheers! Gary King (talk) 19:01, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because the Signpost hasn't been sent in a while, to save space, I've condensed all seven issues that were not sent into this archive. Only the three issues from November are below.
